I am currently a researcher at the Applied Ecology group of CIBIO/InBio - Research Centre in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources, University of Porto. I have a B.Sc. in Biochemistry and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biodiversity, Evolution, and Genetic Resources, all from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. My research interests are related to the global conservation of freshwater habitats focusing on the highly-threatened group of freshwater mussels. My research topics are varied and include evolution, diversity, ecology, physiology, and conservation. I participated in several past and ongoing freshwater conservation projects in three different continents. I am also an active promoter of international research efforts around this faunistic group and the current (IUCN/SSC) Coordinator of the Red-List Authority on Freshwater Bivalves within the Molluscs Specialist Group.
