CCAD presents award to Grethel Aguilar for her track record in the region

The Central American Commission for Environment and Development (known in Spanish as CCAD) presented Dr Grethel Aguilar with an award for her track record as Regional Director of the IUCN Office for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, as well as for her dedicated and arduous work in pursuit of a better environment for the Central American and global population.

La Antigua Guatemala, May 30th, 2019 (IUCN). The Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of Guatemala, Alfonso Alonzo Vargas, in his capacity as Pro Tempore President of the CCAD of the Central American Integration System (SICA), and on behalf of the Council of Ministers, presented Dr Aguilar with a plaque which recognizes the invaluable support that she has given to SICA countries.

Present at the tribute were the Vice-president of Guatemala, Mr Jafeth Cabrera Franco; the Secretary General of SICA, Mr Vinicio Cerezo; the Executive Secretary of CCAD, Mr Salvador Nieto; the mayor of the city of La Antigua, Susana Asencio; cabinet members of the government of Guatemala; as well as representatives of Commissions and IUCN Member organisations of our region.

This award was presented within the framework of the Regional Conservation Forum for Mesoamerica and the Caribbean that is being held this week in La Antigua Guatemala; which was also the venue for the LVI Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Central America and the Dominican Republic.
