Matthew Emslie-Smith joined the IUCN World Heritage Programme in May 2019. His main responsibilities include support in the preparation of the second update of the IUCN World Heritage Outlook, and in World Heritage monitoring and evaluation processes. Prior to this, he worked in Central Asia on issues of governance and infrastructure development surrounding protected and conserved areas. Hailing from Dundee, Scotland, he holds a B.Sc in Zoology from the University of St Andrews, and an M.Sc in Conservation Science and Policy from the University of Exeter.
