Governing Plastic Waste Management in Cyprus: Assessment of legal, policy and institutional frameworks

The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the legal and policy instruments in the Republic of Cyprus directly tackling marine plastic pollution at national level, in the context of the IUCN’s “Plastic Waste Free Islands-Med” project.

Drawing on prior IUCN experience, desk research, and consultation with the main local stakeholders, the report assesses the comprehensiveness and effectiveness of the national legal and regulatory framework governing plastic waste management in order to identify existing gaps and weaknesses that contribute to plastic leakage into the Mediterranean Sea.
