Economic Impact of Plastic Pollution in Grenada, Caribbean
In 2019 with Norad support, IUCN launched the Plastic Waste Free Islands (PWFI) project, aiming to reduce plastic waste generation and leakage into the ocean in island nations in the Pacific and Caribbean regions.
An economic assessment was conducted as part of the project in Grenada. The study examined the impacts of marine plastics on the fisheries and tourism sectors and the costs and benefits of implementing a national recycling system.
