The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Tanzania extends its deepest sympathies to the Government of the Republic of Tanzania and communities devastated by the recent landslide and floods in Hanang District, Manyara Region.

We commend the swift and compassionate action of the Government of Tanzania and all stakeholders in their emergency response efforts. Your dedication to saving lives and securing the livelihoods of the victims in this critical time is both admirable and inspiring.

This tragedy underscores the increasing severity of climate challenges, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive climate action and landscape level planning. The escalating effects of climate change are manifesting in harsher realities, making extreme weather events more frequent and devastating to social and ecological systems.

As we join the people of Tanzania in mourning this loss, we also reaffirm our dedication to building resilient communities and a sustainable future for all. IUCN remains committed to providing support and expertise in climate resilience, landscape restoration, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development initiatives.
