About the SSG SG
The Snapper, Seabream, and Grunt SG was formed in 2012 to address overdue needs for Red List assessments of more than 540 species of reef and estuarine percoid fishes, many subjected to heavy long-term fishing pressure. As a member of the IUCN’s Species Survival Commission, the SSG SG has worked closely with the IUCN Global Marine Species Assessment Program and has contributed to Red List assessments of all SG families, including near completion of global Red List extinction risk analyses for the family Sparidae (Seabreams and Porgies) and large advances for the five other families. 

For the IUCN’s 2017-2020 Quadrennium, the SG is conducting several projects to a)  complete Red List assessments for remaining un-assessed species and update past Red List assessments, and b)  merge conservation planning and management actions to drive conservation advances.  More information is at:
