Project title: Delivery of the Asian Ranger Information Surveys in Bangladesh

Project background: World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has been conducting a study called ‘Asian Ranger Information Surveys’ to understand the perception and employment insights of field rangers across different Asian countries. The overall aim of this study is to better understand the perspectives, opinions and ground level realities in terms of job stress, job satisfaction, corruption, and working and living conditions of forest rangers operating in protected areas throughout Asia. The survey in Bangladesh will contribute to a regional study led by WWF in another 12 Asian countries (Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam and China).
Bangladesh Forest Department has delineated its biodiversity and wildlife frequented areas with different legal classifications e.g. national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and reserve forests. The forest rangers, who actively go out for patrols, are in general posted across the forest divisions and managed by the divisional forest officials regardless of the area delineation. Therefore, the Forest Divisions are considered as base unit for selecting the forest rangers.
Based on preliminary information on 12 Divisional Forest Offices a survey plan will be chalked out. A team of surveyors will be trained on survey delivery techniques and data coding. They will subsequently deliver the survey across 12 Forests Divisions. All the selected rangers of different sites will be surveyed. At least one-third of rangers who write the survey portion should subsequently be interviewed. The collected data will be compiled and coded and reported back to WWF.
Goal: The goal of the main project is to understand the perception and employment insights of field rangers across different Asian countries.
