World Heritage Knowledge and Information Officer
Matea joined the IUCN World Heritage Programme in October 2015. Her main responsibilities include coordinating knowledge management processes within the Programme, managing IUCN’s knowledge bank on World Heritage, and leading on the further development of the IUCN World Heritage Outlook website and associated knowledge products and tools. Matea has more than half a decade of experience in the nature conservation field, on a diverse range of topics including biodiversity and climate change, conservation and climate change policy, ecosystem-based adaptation, and World Heritage. She holds a B.A. degree in Global and Environmental Studies from Randolph College in Virginia, and an M.Sc. degree in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford. Her master’s thesis work focussed on a GIS-based analysis of oil and gas development in the World Heritage and wider protected area network in sub-Saharan Africa.
