The IUCN Species Programme and the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) provide scientific and technical advice to the Parties of the CBD (governments), other governments, the Secretariat to the Convention and other organisations (e.g. businesses, NGOs etc.), to help ensure that the goals of the CBD are met. Members of the IUCN Species Programme and the SSC attend meetings of the Conference of the Parties, the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advise (SBSTTA), and the Subsidiary Body on Implementation, to provide such advice, as well as representing IUCN as nominated experts at meetings of ad hoc working groups.
