Conservation, Research & Funding Priorities

This webpage highlights the conservation, research and funding priorities for golden moles, sengis, hyraxes, tenrecs and the aardvark – the species overseen by the IUCN/SSC Afrotheria Specialist Group.

The IUCN/SSC Afrotheria Specialist Group facilitates the conservation of hyraxes, the aardvark, sengis (or elephant-shrews), golden moles, tenrecs, and their habitats by:

  1. providing sound scientific advice and guidance to conservationists, governments, and other interested groups;
  2. raising public awareness;
  3. developing research and conservation programmes.

More information on the group, including copies of its annual newsletter, can be found at afrotheria

This webpage provides a summary of the latest conservation and research priorities for the Afrotheria, highlighting the actions and resources required. The information is presented as a series of Conservation Fact Sheets which will be updated regularly.
