Science is clear that we cannot address the climate crisis without addressing the biodiversity one, and vice versa. Yet now they occur in parallel processes within the UNFCCC and CBD, respectively, with insufficient alignment. The challenge of how to find and strengthen convergence remains.

WCEL successfully hosted its 3rd International Environmental Law Conference at the University of Oslo. The conference focused on the Transformative Power of Law: Addressing Global Environmental Challenges.

On May 31 and June 1 WCEL will participate in the Symposium on Judges and the Environment: The Impact of the Stockholm Declaration in Shaping Global Environmental Law and Jurisprudence. The hybrid Conference will be held in Conjunction with the UN Stockholm+50 Conference.

WCEL members and other leading sustainability experts have called for the urgent development of clear and comprehensive policies on inclusive green growth, in order to ensure progress in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria and beyond.
