Bahrain Women Association graduates First Group of Environmental Youth Ambassadors

A competition between the 5 participants in the Environmental Youth Ambassadors (EYA) project took place at the graduation ceremony of the first group of ambassadors on Saturday, 26^th October 2019, where each participant presented their environmental project.

Mrs. Mona Al Alawi, President of the Bahrain Women Association for Human Development (BWA), said that the “Environmental Youth Ambassadors” project, launched by the Association's Environmental Citizenship Program in April this year, targeted youth between the age of 18 and 25. After completing the necessary training during the six months period, each participant presented an individual environmental project in addition to a group project in which all the 5 participants were involved.

Al-Alawi also added that the evaluation of the 5 environmental projects was conducted by a committee of four according to specific pre-set criteria. The winning project was presented by Mrs. Noor Nabeel, and it was to design an educational environmental game that can be used for environmental awareness purposes or during family/friends’ gatherings for entertainment and awareness. The winning project can widely spread within and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain and targets different age groups to convey environmental information and awareness in a fun and interactive ways.

The committee thanked all the Environmental Youth Ambassadors for their presentations and noting that it was challenging to determine the winning projects since all the projects are significant and tackle different local and global environmental issues. Each of the projects aimed at one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals such as Climate Action, Life on land and below Water, and Reasonable Consumption and Production.

Al-Alawi concluded that the beauty of the ceremony was due to the enthusiasm of the participants while presenting their projects idea and why they are passionate about it, in addition to their implementation plan and how to measure the impact.

By the end of the ceremony the winning project was announced and awarded in addition to the most interactive participant and finally certificates and gifts were distributed to all the five participants as a gesture of appreciation.

The Environmental Youth Ambassadors project aims to train a group of youth by reinforcing concepts and values ​​that supports humanity and sound environmental behaviors. The aim is also to spread this knowledge and behaviors to the largest possible segment. That will be achieved by adopting those behaviors and concepts and spread it among the surrounding community.

تنافس خمسة شباب في مشروع "سفراء البيئة الشباب" على المركز الأول في المشاريع البيئية التي قدموها في حفل تخريج الفوج الأول من المشروع. 

صرحت رئيسة جمعية البحرين النسائية - للتنمية الإنسانية السيدة منى العلوي بأن مشروع "سفراء البيئة الشباب" الذي دشنه برنامج المواطنة البيئية التابع للجمعية في شهر أبريل من هذا العام، استهدف الشباب من الفئة العمرية 18- 25 سنة، وانضم إليه ثلاث شابات وشابان. وبعد أن استكملوا التدريب اللازم خلال الستة أشهر الماضية، عرض كل منهم مشروعه البيئي الفردي بالإضافة إلى عرض المشروع الجماعي وذلك في حفل التخرج الذي أقيم لهذا الغرض. وأضافت العلوي بأن التقييم جرى من قبل أربعة محكمين ووفقاً لمعايير محددة، وقد فاز مشروع الشابة "نور نبيل" بالمركز الأول وهو عبارة عن تصميم لعبة تتضمن معلومات بيئية يمكن استخدامها في البرامج التدريبية البيئية أو في أوقات التسلية العائلية كلعبة هادفة ومفيدة. ويعتبر مشروعها قابل للنشر على نطاق واسع داخل وخارج مملكة البحرين، ويمكنه استهداف فئات عمرية مختلفة لإيصال المعلومات الثقافة البيئية إليهم بشكل شيّق. 

مضيفة بأن أحد المحكمين أعرب عن شكره للشباب مبينّاً بأنه وبقية المحكمين واجهوا صعوبة في تحديد المركز الأول لأفضل مشروع نظراً لأهمية كل المشاريع وملامستها للقضايا البيئية المحلية والعالمية من زوايا متعددة، وكل منها يصب في هدف أو أكثر من أهداف التنمية المستدامة، منها على سبيل المثال: تغّير المناخ، الحياة تحت الماء، والحياة في البر، والمدن المستدامة، وغيرها.

واختتمت العلوي بأن الحفل كان متميّزاً بسبب حماس الشباب في عرضهم لمشاريعهم وتفاعلهم مع مفاصل المشروع، مبينين فكرة المشروع وسبب إيجاده، وخطة التنفيذ، وطريقة قياس الأثر. وفي ختام الحفل تم توزيع الجوائز على المشروع الفائز، وعلى أكثر الشباب تفاعلا في المشروع، وعلى الفائز في المسابقات البيئية خلال فترة المشروع، كما تم منح جوائز تقديرية وشهادات للمشاركين الخمسة. 

ويشار إلى أن مشروع "سفراء البيئة الشباب" يهدف إلى تأهيل مجموعة من الشباب بالمفاهيم والقيم الإنسانية الداعمة للممارسات البيئية السليمة، وتمكينهم من القدرة على نشر ما تعلموه لشباب آخرين، للإسهام مع البرنامج في نشر الوعي لشرائح أخرى.
