Scoping Studies on Ecosystem Services for DRR and CCA

As part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen application of Nature based Solutions in South Eastern Europe ECARO is conducting two Scoping Studies on Ecosystem Services and their role in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation, one for Albania and another one for Serbia.  Scoping Studies, identified by those two countries, are a part of prioritised actions for nature conservation.  Planned activities are designed to improve knowledge on ecosystems, their services and roles, and their contribution to prevention activities in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.

As part of the research process for the Study IUCN is building relationships with key governmental and international organisations, with the view to inform, create networks and activate key stakeholders to apply the concept of Nature-based Solutions as a no-regret measure that provides many benefits besides DRR and CCA. Once finalised, the studies will be used to develop cooperation between stakeholders across sectors and inform future projects. Results of the studies will be published on the ECARO website.

The study is part of the project “Towards Strengthening Conservation Planning in South-Eastern Europe”, funded by MAVA Foundation, with aim to strengthen the implementation of conservation standards in South-Eastern Europe by supporting institutional development and creating a regional platform for nature conservation planning.
