Brasília Declaration of Judges on Water Justice Presented in Rome

WCEL Member Stefano Burchi spoke to the importance of the Brasília Declaration of Judges on Water Justice during the International Conference on Environmental Governance and Sustainable Cities at Rome City Hall on 20-21 April 2018.

Convened under the International Court for the Environment Foundation (ICEF), the International Conference on Environmental Governance and Sustainable Cities featured WCEL Member Stefano Burchi detailing the development and eventual approval of the Brasília Declaration of Judges on Water Justice on 21 March during the 8th World Water Forum.

WCEL Member Stefano Burchi introduced the Brasília Declaration of Judges on Water Justice to approximately 30 participants from academia, the judiciary, government, and civil society during the International Conference on Environmental Governance and Sustainable Cities convened at the Rome City Hall from 20-21 April 2018. In his presentation (see Downloads on this page), he illustrated the origin, rationale, scope, and purpose of the Declaration and focused on the ten principles at its core. He further summarized the significance of the preambular paragraphs and emphasized the concluding statements for encouraging application and implementation of the principles.

With great appreciation to Stefano Burchi, WCEL thanks him for preparing an unofficial Italian translation of the Declaration. It was agreed by the conference conveners that this translation and the English original language version are to be included in the conference proceedings.
