Obituary Mr Mahfuz Ullah (Councillor 2008-2012)

IUCN is sad to announce that Mr Mahfuz Ullah, IUCN Regional Councillor for South and East Asia from 2008 to 2012 and former Chair of the National Committee of IUCN Members in Bangladesh, has passed away.

As Secretary General of the Centre for Sustainable Development (CFSD), an NGO Member of IUCN based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Mr Mahfuz Ullah dedicated much of his professional life to raising awareness of environment and development issues amongst law and policy makers, local leaders and youths. Mr Mahfuz Ullah was a passionate journalist who worked with leading Bangla and English dailies and hosted radio and television shows. He was also a prolific writer and authored more than 50 Bangla and English books.

I am expressing my heartiest condolence for sad demise of Mahfuzullah bhai. I wish, eternal peace of his departed soul. Hope, his family would able to bear the pain.

I knew him for about two decades and had few opportunities working together. I am an admirer of Mr. Mahfuzullah for his wisdom.

On behalf of Bangladesh National Committee of IUCN Members I express our deepest condolences for the sad and untimely demise of Mafuz Ullah whose contribution to the nation and to environment made him a national and global leader of courage and integrity. We are organizing a special conference on 29 July, 2019 to announce a Platform for Sustainable Conservation of Biodiversity in Bangladesh where we shall honour him with a Crest on his achievement as an environmental leader. The idea of such a Platform will have been much acclaimed by him. We shall miss you Mahfuz Bhai.
