Together for the Med - Know-How Seminar - Monitoring Bycatch of Vulnerable Marine Species and Dolphin Depredation

Date: 16th May, 2022 -  Time: 13:30 – 16:00 (CEST) - Free online Know-how Webinar organised by IUCN-Med in collaboration with MedBycatch and Dolphin Depredation project partners.

IUCN-Med is organising a know-how webinar to share the experience and knowledge within the framework of the MedBycatch and Dolphin Depredation projects. The MedBycatch project has developed a standardized multi-taxa approach to study and mitigate bycatch in the Mediterranean. Activities are being implemented in the Mediterranean waters of Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Italy, and Croatia, while the Mitigating Dolphin Depredation project has developed a harmonized approach to assess and mitigate depredation by cetaceans in purse seine fisheries in Morocco and Tunisia, and in small-scale fisheries in Andalucía (Spain), Sicily (Italy) and Malta. .

The objective of the know-how webinar is to:

  1. Share current knowledge on bycatch of vulnerable species and depredation in the Mediterranean.

  2. Present a regional example of how to set-up a bycatch monitoring programme to assess interactions between vulnerable species and fisheries.

  3. Share experiences and lessons-learnt on how to build strong relationships and collaboration with fishers to address bycatch and depredation

To register, please send an e-mail to yaprak.arda@iucn.org with the information of your full name, affiliation and institution by 9th May, 2022.
