Project Title: Lower Mekong Basin Wetland Management and Conservation

Location: Beung Kiat Ngong (BKN) Wetland, Champasak Province, Lao PDR

Duration: 2016-2020

Project Background: The Lower Mekong Basin Wetland Management and Conservation Project (or Mekong Regional Wetlands Project – MRWP – for short) is funded by the German Government through KfW, and is in line with the overall goal of the Strategic Framework for cooperation between the MRC and the Federal Republic of Germany. The present Project consists of three distinct, but also closely linked some components (“the Project”): one regional component (to be implemented by the MRC-S) and two national components (to be implemented in Lao PDR and Cambodia). The aim of MRWP as a national component is to sustainable rehabilitation, conservation and management of wetlands ecosystem services, as well as to improve the livelihood of local communities in selected wetlands sites.
To support the Lao Component implementation, MRWP is led by from Lao National Mekong Committee Secretariat (LNMCS) within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) with technical support from International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

As such, the Partnership Agreement (as “Contract”), is to establish the framework for collaboration between the LNMCS and IUCN a quasi-governmental international organization established under the laws of Switzerland represented by its Lao PDR Country Office, was signed to provide the service as agreed between IUCN and LNMCS for the implementation of project, under the number 0438/MONRE.LNMCS.
