Other three Global Vice Presidents, elected for the first time, are:
Russ Meitter Meir of the USA, Diana Shand of New Zealand, and Kalev Sepp of Estonia.

Earlier, in October 2008, at the World Conservation Congress held in Barcelona, Spain, Javed Jabbar had been re-elected to the International Council for a second term, securing the highest votes from around the world out of the six candidates from the West Asian region.

The 33 member Council represents over 1100 member organizations of IUCN, including Governments, NGOs and scientific research organizations from around the world.

The Council formulates IUCN policies and programmes on behalf of its members and oversees their implementation by the Secretariet.

Its President is Ashok Khosla, a noted environmentalist from India, Director General is Julia Marton-Lefèvre, while the Regional Director Asia is Aban Marker Kabraji of Pakistan.
