Visit of the Charles Sturt University Delegation

A meeting was held with an Australian delegation led by Mr. Jehangir Phuntakey and comprised Mr. Michael Mitchell, Research Fellow from the Institute for Land, Water and Society, Charles Sturt University, Australia. Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema, Country Representative, IUCN Pakistan, welcomed the delegation and gave them a detailed presentation on  IUCN, specially its work in the water sector.

The delegation discussed prospects of a future programme that focuses on mapping salinity across the Pakistan, for which they have been meeting various partners in Pakistan. The delegation suggested including IUCN for its extensive network and expertise and indicated they would share a programme proposal for review by March 2018 for IUCN’s comments. 
 
Mr. Cheema highlighted some of IUCN’s work in Sindh and Balochistan, and shared success stories of the last 30 years of IUCN’s work in this region. He assured the delegates of IUCN’s full support and appreciated their offer to include IUCN as a network partner in their upcoming programme. Mr. Danish Rashdi, Program Coordinator, IUCN Pakistan and Mr. Amjad Siddiqui, Coordinator, Business & Biodiversity Platform were also present at this meeting.
