A presentation on, “Climate Change; Moving from Problems to solutions” was organized by IUCN for Society for community support & Primary Education in Balochistan (SCSPEB)

A presentation on, “Climate Change; Moving from Problems to solutions” was organized by International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) under Balochistan Partnership for Sustainable Development program in collaboration with Society for community support & Primary Education in Balochistan (SCSPEB) Office, Quetta  on July 27, 2011.

The objective of presentation was to sensitize the development sector about the importance of our planet and make them aware about the looming threat of global warming. About 40 staff members of SCSPEB attended the presentation.

Mr. Zabardast Khan Bangash Manager IUCN Balochistan Programme delivered a detailed presentation on climate change. He informed that global warming is no more a disputable topic and there is overwhelming evidence that it is being caused through anthropogenic actions. It is causing considerable damage to Pakistan's environment, and  among the impacts felt and seen are biodiversity loss, rise in the sea level, increased draughts, shifts in the weather patterns, increased flooding, changes in water availability and an increase in extreme weather events. These could also lead to alterations in forests and crop yields. A climatic change is also affecting human health, animals and many types of eco-systems.

Mr Bangash emphasized that it is our responsibility as representatives of the civil society to play a pivotal role in highlighting the negative impacts of Climate Change and should work to bring a positive change in the lives of communities through building their resilience against the extreme weather events and natural disasters.

He also emphasized that we all need to spread this massage among all segments of the society to sensitize communities in the working area of SCSPEB. He also suggested including this as module in their teacher training manuals.  Staff members shared their views and appreciated IUCN interventions.
