The workshop on the updating and revision of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) for South America was held in Quito, Ecuador from 13 to 16 July 2011, back-to-back with a Workshop on the Amazon Regional Biodiversity Strategy in the same venue. The workshops were organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) and the Permanent Secretariat of ACTO, in cooperation with the Government of Ecuador.

CEC member Ana Puyol focused attention on the role of Communication, Education and Public Awareness (CEPA) in promoting national plans and international environmental Conventions. “Governments recognize the crucial role of communication, education and public engagement, for reaching biodiversity goals. They are aware that they need to move from producing documents to generating change. As CEC, we can definitely play a role in making this change happen,” Ana said.
