IUCN Leaders Forum 2023 to drive action to halt nature loss

The second IUCN Leaders Forum opens in Geneva, Switzerland, and virtually from 11 to 13 October 2023 under the theme: Global goals for nature: Tracking progress, financing success.

“This second IUCN Leaders Forum provides a valuable opportunity to stoke ambition, mobilise action and secure commitments from multisector stakeholders to help realise the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and integrate the biodiversity and climate agendas in the lead up to the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28,” said Dr Grethel Aguilar, IUCN Acting Director General. “IUCN stands ready to support governments and the private sector in their efforts towards a nature-positive future.”

With over 75 high-level speakers and 400 participants from around the world, the three-day event will bring together experts, government representatives, business leaders, young people, Indigenous peoples’ organisations, and local communities to identify solutions to protect and restore nature, with a focus on partnerships and financing.

Topics under discussion include the societal transformation needed to achieve biodiversity and climate goals, financing implementation and measuring progress towards a nature-positive world. Participants will consider the risks and opportunities of reversing nature loss for different sectors of the economy, how Nature-based Solutions can contribute to green jobs, and the potential of cities and tourism to contribute to implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework. Young leaders and entrepreneurs will pitch innovative solutions to some of the most complex biodiversity challenges of our time.

You will find more information on the Leaders Forum, the detailed programme and a full list of speakers on the IUCN Leaders Forum website.
