Training materials

To support awareness raising and capacity building on OECMs, the IUCN WCPA Specialist Group on OECMs and BfN’s International Academy for Nature Conservation have developed a set of training materials. The materials are intended to develop worldwide capacity for identifying, recognising, supporting and reporting OECMs.

The training materials are designed to be used for face-to-face or online training led by an instructor. The training material includes instructions, learning plans, detailed training notes, presentations and films as well as some background literature. All materials can be adapted to target groups, geographical context and training needs. Some materials are also open for self-paced distant learning.

For Trainers

These training materials are globally applicable and will support people running capacity building programmes at the local, national and international level as well as educators in conservation leadership courses, M.Sc. or M.Phil. programmes in conservation, protected and conserved areas, or other related training programmes.

The training materials include:

1. Overall objectives

2. Matrix of learning objectives

3. Overall structure of modular learning plans

4. Trainer briefing sheets

5. Online training instructions

6. Presentation for all modules (also available in French and Spanish)

7. Scripts for all following modules:

  • Module A: Introduction to OECMs
  • Module B: Identifying potential OECMs
  • Module C: Consent and candidate OECMs
  • Module D: Recognising and supporting OECMs
  • Module E: Reporting OECMs
