The Slitere National Park

Slitere National Park

Situated in the Northern Kurzeme Peninsula along the Baltic Sea in Latvia, the Slitere National Park offers incredible landscapes with wetlands, grassy swamps, broadleaf forests and a long chain of dunes formed thousands of years ago by the sea. The former presence of the military in the region ensured that the park and its inhabitants remained undisturbed for nearly 50 years. During springtime, a myriad of migratory birds can be observed along the coastline. Slitere National Park is part of the EU’s Natura 2000 network of protected areas, and is currently taking part in the @LIFEProgramme Green List for N2K project.
