“IUCN has formed part of a consortium with GIZ, NIRAS and IRD to bid for the project action “Ocean Governance: Protecting and restoring marine ecosystems, catalysts for building peace and security, and fostering sustainable economies”, to be funded by the European Union under its Partnership Instrument 2018 Annual Action Programme (prospective project duration: Sept 2019 – Aug 2022).

Building upon existing work, the action will focus on taking forward concrete cooperation for specific Marine Protected Areas and/or degraded coastal and marine ecosystems around two basins: the South- and Southeast Asian region and the Atlantic Ocean. The action is designed with separate but interlinked objectives for the two regions and cross-learning between them will be promoted. The action should interact with public-private partnerships, local/regional authorities, Marine Protected Areas networks of managers, business and local communities and provide opportunities for exchange and joint action.

IUCN would like call for expressions of interest from key experts to potentially be involved. Relevant qualifications include:

• Strong expertise on marine protected area management and governance, and global tools and standards for MPA management
• Proven knowledge of socioeconomic context and nature conservation issues in countries of the Atlantic Basin and/or South East Asia
• Fluent in English; knowledge of French, Spanish and/or Portuguese is an asset
• Experience with implementation of EU-funded projects a strong asset.
