IUCN experts are busy preparing their input to the first plenary meeting of the Intergovernmental science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) that takes place 21 to 26 January in Bonn, Germany.
It is hoped this meeting will decide on the Platform's initial programme of work and finalize the basic procedures to get it up and running.
"Carried by strong messages of support from the last IUCN World Conservation Congress that was held in September 2012, IUCN is taking part in the process and stands ready to contribute in building the work programme and to help implement it," says Pierre Commenville, IUCN's Programme Officer for IPBES.
IUCN is calling for an inclusive format for IPBES governance and for an ambitious initial programme of work.
