To commemorate IUCN’s 70th anniversary, IUCN Goodwill Ambassador IRUKA performed a concert at the Stellar Theater at Kawaguchi Lake in Yamanashi, Japan on 21 July.

An audience of more than 2,000 fans enjoyed the four-hour long event, and sang in unison to a song for IUCN entitled ‘We Love You Planet! Echo to our Planet’.

Since IRUKA was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador, she has performed the concert annually. IRUKA always dedicates the show to IUCN, while the IUCN Japanese National Committee takes the opportunity to invite the audience to take steps to conserve nature.

IRUKA received messages from Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Environment, the Governor of Yamanashi, the Governor of Tokyo and from the Director General of IUCN. The concert was supported by volunteers from the town.

Over the last 14 years, IRUKA’s contribution has raised the visibility of IUCN in Japan enormously. So too the audience has almost learned the song for IUCN off by heart, as IRUKA guides them through singing it at the show.

‘Across the borders, we love you Planet!
‘Beyond everything, we love you Planet!
‘I, you see Nature.’
