Protected landscapes are a strong option for biodiversity conservation in human-influenced landscapes and seascapes and often contain threatened or endemic species. There is now a growing interest in the nature conservation benefits of protected landscapes - do they really protect wild biodiversity? These case studies show that there is good evidence that the approach can deliver effective biodiversity conservation. The first three case studies are focusing on Europe, with examples from Croatia, Spain and Germany.
