IUCN will soon have a country programme for Zimbabwe following the commitment made during the members’ meeting that was held in Harare, 6 November 2009 at the IUCN Offices.
The members previously put together a draft Zimbabwe programme document and during the meeting, members they discussed Terms of Reference for a consultant to be hired to finalize the programme document for Zimbabwe.
During the discussion members agreed that the programme for Zimbabwe should strongly link to the IUCN Programme for 2009 to 2012 that was adopted by members during the Barcelona Congress. Members also noted that the programme should have a strong link to the national biodiversity strategy and action plan so that IUCN is seen to add value and not duplicate national efforts.
During the meeting, the Chair also gave feedback on the Regional Members’ meeting that took place at the IUCN Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa in Nairobi and encouraged members to commit to a coordinated approach to IUCN’s work in the region.
