Workshop for the evaluation of Freshwater Key Biodiversity Areas

IUCN-Med and the Freshwater Biodiversity Unit of the IUCN Species Programme are organizing a workshop to discuss and validate Freshwater Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in North Africa. These KBAs are part of the biodiversity hotspots of the Mediterranean.

The workshop will be held in Marrakech, from the 3rd to the 6th of September, 2013. A dozen of experts coming from various Mediterranean countries will gather for the occasion.

This event falls within the framework of two current initiatives, the BioFresh project and the CEPF/Fondation MAVA project. They are both centered on identifying and validating freshwater KBAs, an increasingly acknowledged tool for species conservation.
