What can you change?
Use water sustainably.

Water conservation

1.    Turn off the water while brushing your teeth and save 25 gallons a month.

2.    Water your lawn and garden in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler to minimize evaporation.

3.    Do not water your lawn on windy days when most of the water is wasted.

4.    Wash your fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap.

5.    Collect the water you use for rinsing fruits and vegetables and reuse it to water houseplants.

6.    When cleaning out fish tanks, give the nutrient-rich water to your plants.

7.    Do not use running water to thaw food. Defrost food in the refrigerator for water efficiency and food safety.

8.    Use drip irrigation for shrubs and trees to apply water directly to the roots where needed.

9.    Wash your car with a bucket and sponge instead of a hose. A hose can waste 6 gallons per minute if you leave it running.  A bucket and sponge only uses a few gallons.

10.    Do not use the toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket. Every time you flush a cigarette butt, facial tissue or other small bit of trash, five to seven gallons of water is wasted.

11.    Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks.

12.    Do not take a bath – A quick shower is much more water efficient than a bath.
