Transat support for sustainable tourism projects run by not-for-profit organizations

Transat A.T. Inc., one of the world’s largest integrated tourism companies, is seeking to support sustainable tourism projects proposed by not-for-profit organizations in its major destination countries. Projects selected by Transat are eligible for financial support of as much as CDN$50,000 or 35,000 € each. With this initiative, Transat wants to support communities that care about preserving and enhancing their natural and cultural heritage through a sustainable tourism approach.

Sustainable tourism entails respect for nature, as well as for host communities and their values; it combines positive socio-economic benefits for local populations with an enriching experience for travellers.

Proposals submitted for consideration to Transat’s sustainable tourism program can focus on natural or cultural heritage, including the restoration, protection, conservation or improvement of a natural site or ecosystem, environmental enhancement or rehabilitation of an existing tourist site, restoration or development of a heritage or historic site or building, with a view to preserving it, as well as projects aimed at diminishing the negative impacts related to tourism.

The application form and all details of the program, including addresses for delivering proposals, can be found on Transat’s website ( in the section “Social Responsibility – Our Philanthropy Policy.” Applications must be submitted in English or in French and will be reviewed and their merit established by a committee composed of Transat staff members. Applications must be received by this May 31, and the names of the selected projects will be announced in the fall (norterhn hemisphere) of 2010.
