IUCN welcomes Mr. Adam Starr to join IUCN as Country Manager, IUCN Lao PDR Country Office with effect from 01 May 2014. Mr. Starr will be based at the IUCN Lao, PDR Office, in Vientiane.
In his role as the Country Manager, IUCN Lao PDR he directly reports to the Head, Southeast Asia Group. Mr. Starr will have overall responsibility for the development, management and administration of the IUCN Programme in Lao PDR, including to ensure effective and timely planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of an integrated and coherent programme for IUCN in Lao PDR.
Mr. Starr has over 18 years of progressively responsible experience in Natural Resource Management, and Conservation Project Management. He started his career in Forestry in Canada, and has been involved with a variety of conservation projects throughout Cambodia for over 8 years, and worked with Fauna & Flora International prior to joining IUCN. He is highly knowledgeable with community based species conservation management related to Irrawaddy dolphins and Siamese crocodiles, and is currently a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Crocodile Specialist Group. In his career, Mr. Starr has worked for both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations at technical and management levels, and brings with him a wealth of skills and knowledge.
Mr. Starr holds a BA in International Relations in Political Science with a focus on development issues from the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC, Canada and a MSc. in Sustainable Development in Conservation Biology from the SOAS – University of London, Centre for Development, Environment and Policy in London, UK.
