Klaus Toepfer Fellows at the IUCN Environmental Law Centre

On 15 November 2012, 20 environmental young professionals from Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia visited the IUCN Environmental Law Centre in the context of the Klaus Toepfer Fellowship Programme sponsored by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN).

The Programme aims at strengthening organizations from the nature conservation sector in the aforementioned areas, by developing the personal capacity of early-career conservation professionals towards overcoming global biodiversity loss. The fellows have different backgrounds and work in different sectors (forest, water management, protected areas, etc.), therefore the course is meant to facilitate their professional development through exploring international best conservation practice and policy, management training, and personal network development.

The young professionals were keen on knowing about the multiple topic areas covered by the work of the Centre. They were also particularly interested in the knowledge tools available (from ECOLEX to the latest publications), since these are fundamental pillars for their professional development and activity. The meeting offered the appropriate occasion to exchange different perspectives and address future opportunities and challenges in the environmental field.
