The Latin America Nexus workshop kicked off today in Bogotá, Colombia and brings together participants from the water-energy-food sectors to discuss solutions and ways forward in optimizing water infrastructure to meet growing needs towards 2050.
This workshop is the second in a series of three regional Nexus Dialogue workshops, with the first meeting having taken place in Nairobi, Kenya during May 2013 (watch video or read report). These regional workshops –in Africa, Latin America and Asia – bring together innovators and managers from the different sectors to build on ‘best-practice’ experiences in water infrastructure operation, re-operation and innovation.
Participants are invited to build new coalitions and partnerships for follow-up action in technology, demonstration, investments in portfolios of water infrastructure, and national-level dialogues on policy and implementation.
The workshop in Bogota uses an interactive process based on ‘best-practice’ to create a shared, cross-sectoral vision that combines best available technology, know-how and experiences.
The objectives of the Bogotá workshop are:
- To develop a better understanding amongst participants to combine and apply best practices on water, energy and food nexus-based approaches for solutions in river basins;
- To identify best-practice success stories in water infrastructure operation, optimization, financing and governance;
- To motivate participants to take practical steps towards implementing water, energy and food nexus thinking and practices in their basins; and
- Help facilitate the creation of new coalitions and partnerships for follow-up actions.
