IUCN CEL Steering Committee member to take senior position in Jordan

IUCN CEL Vice Chair Ms. AL-Sharifeh Nawzat bint Ali has been appointed by the Minister of Environment of Jordan to be his Legal Adviser on International Environmental Law issues, in Amman, starting end of July 2007

In addition to this post, Nawzat will retain the files she handled for the past five years as part of her current post as the Attaché, Environmental Affairs/Legal Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the UN in Geneva, Switzerland. Nawzat is the first Jordanian and Arab to obtain a master’s degree in International Environmental Law and has more than 15 years experience with environmental issues nationally in Jordan, regionally in West Asia and North Africa and on an international level, working with Law Firms, Private Sector, NGOs, IGOs and Government on different environmental subjects and with various MEAs and International Environmental Organizations and Institutions. Among the many subjects are: Trade and Environment negotiations, Enforcement and Compliance, Armed Conflict and the Environment, the Chemicals negotiations (Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions & SAICM), Ramsar Convention and CITES.
