The European Union and its Overseas Entities: Strategies to counter Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss (7-11 July 2008)

An Official Event of the 2008 European Union French Presidency, organized by IUCN, the French National Observatory on the Effects of Global Warming (ONERC), the Regional Council of Reunion Island, and the French Ministry of Internal Affairs and Overseas and Territorial Collectivities.

Nouméa, New-Caledonia

Building on existing policies and commitments, the overall objective of this conference is to initiate a process leading to a new dimension in European Union environment policy, based around the EU Overseas Entities and their cooperation with the neighbouring ACP countries and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

On the occasion of the conference IUCN will publish a background document entitled "Climate change and biodiversity in the EU overseas entities" and a brochure for local stakeholders and politicians, addressing threats on ecosystems, potential economic and social consequences, and possible strategies.
