Countdown to COP19: Nexus Dialogue on Water Infrastructure Solutions [video]

In our 'Countdown to COP19' we look back at videos that contribute solutions to climate change challenges. Here we focus on a video on water infrastructure solutions for the Water-Energy-Food Security Nexus.

Nexus Dialogue on Water Infrastructure Solutions

By 2050 a global population of 9 billion will increase water demands by 55%, energy needs by 80%, and food demands by 60%. With these staggering numbers in mind and the exacerbating threat of climate change, the need to carefully plan and manage our resources and efficiently work together across sectors, has never been a greater priority.

At the upcoming UNFCCC Conference in Warsaw, participation of the business community and representatives of small and medium sized enterprises is for the first time encouraged and actively promoted. The incoming President indicated in his Pre-COP conclusions (read here), his intention to turn business community involvement in the process permanent starting with COP19/CMP9.

Reaching out to other sectors who have a part to play -but are not necessarily directly involved- in environmental decisions and negotiations, is also key to the IUCN-IWA project ‘Nexus Dialogue on Water Infrastructure Solutions’. This project aims to build partnerships for innovation in water, energy, and food security by reaching out to energy, agricultural and related sectors to create platforms for sharing solutions, and provide sets of tools, case studies, and knowledge to lead transformation in water infrastructure planning, financing and operations for a more sustainable future.

The video shows some of the key Nexus issues, impressions of the proceedings, reflections, and short interviews from the project's first regional workshop in Kenya. The ‘Nexus Dialogue on Water Infrastructure Solutions – Nairobi Workshop’ video is available on YouTube:
