Climate action in South America

On-the-ground efforts to mitigate climate change and adapt to its impacts in South America

Sun shining through the trees in the Amazon forest

This video (in Spanish) highlights efforts to help distribute the benefits of REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) in the Peruvian Amazon. This is an initiative implemented by IUCN in partnership with Conservation International Peru and AIDER in the Native community Shampuyacu, San Martin.

Also in Peru, communities in Canchayllo and Miraflores are working together to restore ecosystems such as wetlands and rivers to safeguard their natural resources in the face of a changing climate. These are long term efforts to protect grazing areas and agricultural land - critical sources of livelihood.
