The Commission on Environmental Law held the 2011 meeting on March 24th and 25th in Asuncion, Paraguay.
The CEL Chair presented the 2010 Report to Steering Committee members and guests.
This was the first time a CEL SC meeting was held on a more technological basis with more than ten people participating via SKYPE conferences.
The CEL Chair and Deputy Chair identified the need to incorporate different actors and thus were honored to receive representatives from the Secretariat, Council, the Academy on Environmental Law, other Commission Chairs, Specialist Group Chairs, local members of our Commission and the President of the IUCN Paraguayan National Committee.
Additionally, the Steering Committee members discussed strategies to move forward, including activities during the Rio + 20 Conference and joint work with other IUCN Commissions, IUCN members and agencies.
The Steering Committee members placed a great deal of emphasis on Judicial Governance and some of the Commission's initiatives such as BRICS, BEI and the Judicial Portal.
The CEL Chair and Deputy Chair commended the Steering Committee members for their active participation. The guests’ professional backgrounds proved to be very valuable, as they provided key input for the 2009-2012 Mandate.
We will be sharing the meeting minutes soon.
