An Annual Regional Meeting joining 16 country delegations for both nature and culture heritage focal points commenced on the 24th of November 2013. The annual meeting showcases their achievements and later discusses their annual workplan.
IUCN ROWA’s TABEÁ program was proud to present its achievements and progress in the Arab Region for World Heritage in 2013. Representatives of states parties, World Heritage Centre in Paris and Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), welcomed IUCN’s achievement and expressed that IUCN has showcased its activities as a model for effective and successful partnership between state parties, International and regional institutions.
IUCN TABEÁ program achieves noteworthy progress in the implementation of the regional action plan for Arab States was adopted by World Heritage Committee decision 35 COM 10C.3 35th session (Brasilia, 2011). IUCN’s great achievement in partnering with UNEP, UNESCO, Ministry of Environment of Iraq and ARC-WH using World Heritage convention process to improve management and conservation of Iraqi Marshlands and building qualified national team. As well as IUCN joint activities with ARC-WH in capacity building programs for regional experts. IUCN also have involvement in supporting already listed World Heritage sites for example Socotra and Wadi Rum.
