1st Meeting of environmental journalists from Mediterranean news agencies, 17-18 December 2015, Malaga (Spain)

The IUCN Centre of Mediterranean Cooperation in collaboration with EFEverde is organizing a 1-day and a half conference and workshop to promote a Mediterranean network of journalists and media corporations specialized in environmental issues, with a focus on enhancing sound scientific information and conservation policy analysis in the region. This meeting, the first of its kind in the Mediterranean region, will take place at the Museo Del Patrimonio Municipal de Málaga (MUPAM) in Malaga (Spain).

1ST Meeting of Environmental journalists from news agencies in the Mediterranean

This first meeting is held within the framework of the partnership between the Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN-Med) and the EFE Agency, which was signed in June 2015. It will gather senior environmental and scientific journalists from the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN), representatives of professional associations of environmental journalists (APIA and AECC in Spain) and key regional environmental organizations (IUCN, WWF-Med, UNEP/MAP), with a purpose to explore potential joint activities and to encourage partnerships between Mediterranean environmental organizations, media agencies and journalists.

Other objectives of this conference and workshop are to promote a Mediterranean network of journalists and media corporations specialized in the environment field, increase public awareness on the environmental issues faced by the Mediterranean region and provide technical support and professional training opportunities for professionals.

This environmental journalism forum is the first formal cooperation agreement between IUCN-Med and EFEverde and aims to establish a framework for the development of initiatives that will help improve environmental information quality in the Mediterranean.
