Protected Planet Pavillon
Convening stakeholders and building partnerships for action lies at the core of IUCN’s mission and is the principle applied across our work on protected areas in Europe. Centered on transboundary conservation and diversified governance approaches, regional conservation platforms in South-Eastern Europe and the Caucasus region help define common objectives, convene different actors, and promote joint actions and solutions.
This two-hour event will be divided into two segments. During the first session, between 11:00 and 12:00, the state of and progress in transboundary conservation in South-Eastern Europe with particular emphasis on the Dinaric Arc will be presented. The second session, between 12:00 and 13:00, will show the importance of diversely governed and effectively managed protected areas in the biodiversity-rich Caucasus eco-region.
In both sessions, key speakers, coming from state agencies, protected areas and NGOs, will share lessons learned and outline results achieved to date, followed by moderated discussions on the benefits of regional cooperation to people and nature. The audience will be invited to share their experiences in building successful partnerships for enhanced conservation. The event will also see the launch of a new guideline developed by the IUCN Programme Office for South-Eastern Europe and the WCPA Transboundary Conservation Specialist Group Initiating Effective Transboundary Conservation: A Practitioner’s Guideline Based on Dinaric Arc Experience.
This event is organized by the IUCN Regional Office for Europe, World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA), KfW’s Transboundary Joint Secretariat for Nature Conservation in the South Caucasus and IUCN Members from South-Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.
