1204 - Global Drylands Initiative: Conserving drylands biodiversity for sustainable land management book launch

Protected Planet Pavillon

The Publication "Conserving Dryland Biodiversity" was jointly produced by the United Nations Convention to Combat desertification, UNEP-WCMC, The World Commission on Protected Areas and the IUCN Global Drylands Initiative.

The publication presents newly analysed data on dryland biodiversity, to illustrate the current status and trends for conservation in the drylands, and presents examples of successful conservation, particularly through sustainable land management practices and community-based initiatives. The book concludes with a strategic vision for targeting joint conservation and development goals in the drylands.

The book was produced as part of IUCN's growing partnership with the UNCCD and will inform future collaboration, including initiatives to address land degradation and biodiversity and also a joint input to the CBD COP11 and the World Park’s Congress.
