Almost 6000 species assessed, 25%* threatened, but there are so many more!

Seahorses and pipefishes in the Mediterranean are threatened by habitat loss and degradation that is caused by commercial, residential, and tourism coastal development, and by unintentional damage by destructive fishing gears such as trawls and dredges.

Of the 355 reptile species found in the Mediterranean, 13% are threatened, with 3.9% Critically Endangered, 6.2% Endangered and 3.1% Vulnerable.
