Training Workshop on Biodiversity and Climate Change
29 June 4 July
Planned so as to coincide with the main topic of the G8 summit (Tohoku Summit) organized in Hokkaido at the same period, the 2008 workshop will focus on Biodiversity and Climate Change, in the context of wetlands and water resources management. Sea-level rises could cause the loss of 22% of the world’s wetlands by the 2080’s. By reducing the total global wetland area, and particularly, by affecting the climatic and water systems to which this semi-arid area contributes, climate change is expected to cause a considerable loss of habitats and species. The mitigating effects that wetlands provide against climate change will also be discussed.
