A Gateway to Payments for Ecosystem Services
The Gateway offers an introduction and sense of direction into the complicated world of payments for ecosystem services (PES). It is tailored for researchers, practitioners and decision makers interested in using economic incentives in support of conservation and poverty reduction efforts in tropical forests.

This publication, structured as an annotated bibliography, is meant to serve as an entry point for understanding and developing opportunities for capitalizing on the multiple benefits of forest-based ecosystem services. The reader is guided through relevant background theory, key concepts, scientific literature, case studies, and ongoing initiatives. The Gateway represents one piece of a broader series of toolkits designed as part of the Livelihoods and Landscapes Strategy (LLS).
