Media competition « Water and environment » 2016

The International Union for Conservation of Nature Central Africa and West African Programme (IUCN/ PACO) as part of its program "Partnership for environmental Governance in West Africa (PAGE)", Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP / WA ) and the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of coastal and marine zone in West Africa (PRCM) as part of their respective work programs are launching the third edition of the "Water and Environment" media contest.

The prize will reward the best print (including internet) news stories and audio (radio) programmes, on the theme "Sustainable management of natural resources: return on successful experiences in West Africa"

Interested journalists can compete for one the following prizes:

Water Prize

Sponsored by IUCN and GWP/WA

Best print and radio programmes on best water resources protection practices in West Africa.

Open to the participation of journalists from West African countries.

Sea Prize

Sponsored by PRCM

Best print and radio programmes on best practices for the conservation of sea resources in 7 West African coastal countries.

Open to the participation of journalists from Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Cabo Verde, Guinea et Guinea Bissau.

First prize winners of each prize, selected by a jury of professionals from IUCN -PACO, GWP / WA and PRCM will be invited to take part into the World Congress of Nature organized by IUCN to take place from 1st to 100 September 2016 in Hawaii on the topic: Planet at the crossroads.

The second place laureates will receive a cash prize of FCFA 300,000.

Participants must be environmental journalists from a West African country and make productions on water and environment related issues, for a media organization either in English, French or Portuguese.

All candidates should send their participation file by email to marcello.rocca@iucn.org, sidi.coulibaly@gwpao.org and safietou.sall@iucn.org before June 30th, 2016.

Competing stories and programmes must have been published or broadcast in the media (newspaper, radio and internet) between 1st January and 30th June 2016.
