IUCN Documents
IUCN wants governments to recognize that managing nature better helps people adapt to the impacts of climate change and can actually reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Union is promoting the inclusion of nature-based solutions to adaptation and mitigation, focusing on two key elements it wants to see adopted in the post-2012 UNFCCC climate change framework:¨
- Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) - the use of ecosystem conservation, management and restoration to help people adapt to the impacts of climate change.
- An equitable and sustainable Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation in developing countries (REDD) mechanism.
